Are you good at celebrating success?

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” Oprah Winfrey.

We have just finished celebrating the Christmas period. When I was thinking about the recent festive celebrations something occurred to me. It related to celebrating personal success and goal achievement, as it’s an area often overlooked by many people.

As part of the goal setting process with clients I ask them to figure out how they will celebrate when they’ve successfully accomplished their goal. This gives them an incentive to focus on and remember whilst they take action towards achieving their goal.

I believe that it’s essential that people spend sufficient time to reflect and celebrate how well they have done and to be proud of their achievements. Taking the time to celebrate every success, no matter how big or small helps to build confidence and keeps your attitude positive. It also makes it easier to keep pushing to reach those large-scale future goals.

A celebration can give you closure on goals you’ve been working towards for a while and helps make every success feel more worthwhile and fulfilling.

There is a fair chance you may have set a number of personal goals in the past, some big, some small. These could include, losing weight, getting fitter, generating more income, starting a new hobby, changing a habit etc. On occasions, when you are embarking on pursuing a new goal, it’s good to pause and take a few moments to list out some accomplishments big or small. This helps remind yourself of past success and of the infinite potential within you.

Your celebration doesn’t have to be a big deal. It can be something you do alone or something you share with others. It just has to make you feel good and help you enjoy the moment and your accomplishment. It doesn’t have to be expensive.

When you hit a milestone on a large project or goal you can reward yourself with a walk, a cake, a piece of fruit or a bar of chocolate. Alternatively, you could buy yourself something new, plan a trip or day out or go for a celebratory meal.

It’s also good to honour some steps you may have taken to bring greater happiness and fulfilment to you and your family. You may have accomplished some positive things which are easy to forget in the busyness of life.

For instance, you may forget the progress you’ve made to get fitter, think more positively or to see the blessings in situations more often. You may have put some focus into removing negative people and energy from your life. It could be that you have become more assertive, set clearer boundaries in your relationships and put yourself first more often.

You may wish to celebrate if you have been clearer in your communication with others and focused more of your attention on what you want rather than what you don’t want to experience in life.

This week, why not take a few moments to celebrate some successes in your life.  Consider if there is an achievement that you need to celebrate. What will you do to mark this appropriately?

22 Pieces of Simple Wisdom to Help You to Be First Class in 2022!

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Leonardo Da Vinci.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, 2021 was another challenging year for many people. Once again, we had to be very adaptable and change the way we did things. At times we needed to be resilient and cope with fast changing and challenging circumstances.

Lots of things have been outside our control. The only thing we have been able to control has been our reaction to external events. At all times our reaction to such events determines the outcome of any situation.

It’s important that we keep this fact uppermost in our mind as we plan what we would like to experience in 2022.

It’s vital that we take 100% responsibility for our choices and our reaction to events and we concentrate our focus on things that we can control. I have listed below 22 suggestions to help make 2022 as good as it can possibly be. These are all things that we can have control over.

22 Pieces of Simple Wisdom to Help You to Be First Class in 2022!

  1. Have a clear personal and professional vision. If you know where you are heading, you are more likely to arrive there and achieve what you want to.
  2. Spend less time worrying about what other people think of you and more time on ensuring your self-talk is positive and encouraging.
  3. Remember that the past is there as your teacher not something to torture you. Live your life in the present moment.
  4. Stop comparing your performance to others, measure your progress against your own targets and standards.
  5. Be kind to yourself and others. Do a little bit every day to help make the world a better place.
  6. Avoid negative people and environments that drag you down, drain your energy and make you feel low.
  7. Spend less time on social media. Aim to have more “real” conversations.
  8. Overthinking quite often leads to procrastination, frustration and sadness. Get out of your head and pay greater attention to what your heart is saying to you.
  9. Remember to not get too attached to things. It’s good to remember that everything is temporary and on loan to us.
  10. Make self-care and joy priorities in your life. Exercise regularly, make some space and time to rest and relax. Ensure that you do things often that bring you joy and happiness.
  11. Meditate daily. Even if it’s just 5 minutes of quiet uninterrupted time each day. It will help you to feel calm, grounded and give you a sense of inner peace.
  12. Journal regularly. Capture your thoughts and feelings. If you don’t write stuff down a piece of wisdom or an insight could be lost forever.
  13. Remember that life is precious and fragile and it can change in a heartbeat. Having this clarity puts life into perspective and encourages us to make the most of each day.
  14. Be grateful for all that you have in life. Keep a notebook to capture 3 things that you are grateful for each day.
  15. Learn to be consistent and to focus. Concentrate on one thing at a time rather than jumping from one thing to another.
  16. Place your thoughts on what you can do and intend to create rather than on what you can’t do.
  17. Always remember that good health is the real wealth in life.
  18. Never take life for granted or forget that every day is a gift.
  19. Learn to tune into and listen to your intuition more. Listen to your inner voice, trust the message and bravely obey that wisdom.
  20. Listen intently to people, be present as this will help them to feel heard and valued.
  21. Remember that smiles are contagious.
  22. Be yourself. This is something that you can do better than anyone else! Remember that everybody else is taken, so you may as well concentrate on being yourself.

I hope that you enjoyed reading my thoughts and that they help you to thrive and increase your happiness and fulfilment levels. Life is all about growing, evolving and feeling a sense of joy and contentment at what we experience and accomplish. With this in mind, why not plan to be happy and healthy and to make 2022 your most contented year yet.

Happy New Year, I hope that 2022 is a happy, healthy and fulfilling one for you.

This week, why not take a few moments out to reflect and consider which of these tips you would like to focus more attention on in 2022 and develop.
