Global Wellness Day 2026

“Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.” Karl Barth

I recently learned that there is a Global Wellness Day. Founded in 2012, this global not for profit initiative is celebrated on Saturday June 13th and the theme is #JoyMagenta. People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to reconnect with joy, not as a fleeting emotion, but as a powerful, restorative practice that supports balance, resilience and emotional wellbeing.

#JoyMagenta stands as a symbol of light, energy and emotional harmony. It represents the rediscovery of joy as a cornerstone of wellbeing, an energy that renews the spirit, nourishes the heart and strengthens the body.

In today’s fast-paced and often uncertain world, joy can easily be overshadowed by stress, anxiety and disconnection. Yet, even in the midst of challenges, joy remains within reach, waiting to be felt in the simplicity of a smile, the rhythm of music or the beauty of nature.

This year, Global Wellness Day ambassadors and volunteers aim to inspire individuals to celebrate joy as a healing force. One that lights the world with positivity and purpose.

The #JoyMagenta theme is brought to life through four guiding pillars:

Joy in Gratitude

Cultivating appreciation for life’s simple blessings, shifting perspective from scarcity to abundance and transforming everyday moments into meaningful experiences.

Joy through Connection

Deepening relationships and fostering belonging through shared time, empathy and acts of kindness.

Joy in Movement

Honouring the body’s natural vitality through mindful movement such as walking, dancing, yoga or stretching, bringing presence and energy into daily life.

Joy through Creativity

Expressing imagination through art, music, cooking, writing or play and turning wellness into a joyful act of self-expression.

The thinking behind these pillars is that they form a joyful roadmap for living more consciously, compassionately and fully.

Joy is more than happiness — it is a state of harmony between the heart, mind, and spirit,” says Belgin Aksoy, Founder of Global Wellness Day. “With #JoyMagenta, we invite people everywhere to rediscover the light within themselves, to share it generously and to remember that one joyful heart can uplift an entire community.”

You can follow the global celebration on June 13 using #GlobalWellnessDay and #JoyMagenta. More information is available at www.globalwellnessday.org

This week, why not pause for a few moments to reflect and think about the four guiding pillars of joy above. Consider what you can do to bring more joy into your life.

The Positive Impact of a Ripple

“Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.” Stella McCartney.

In last week’s blog, I shared the Starfish Story which illustrates how small gestures can have a huge impact on the world. It got me thinking about how making a difference in the world is an important part of life to many of us. We want to feel that we have made a positive and unique contribution to help make the world a better place.

I sometimes think that we never really get to know and understand the full impact that people have on other’s lives with their actions and the positive ripple effect they create.

We never get to totally understand the impact that encouraging and supportive words had on someone who was feeling nervous or when their belief has been dented. A simple act like smiling at someone when they are feeling down can have a positive influence as can carrying out random acts of kindness.

I once saw a Tom Hanks film “Bridge of Spies.” It is a true story based on the work of lawyer Jim Donovan who was tasked with negotiating the release/exchange of prisoners between the USA, Russia and East Germany.

The film is a great example of how the tenacity and determination of a human being can truly positively influence the future quality of other people’s lives and enable them to make a more positive contribution on society.

At the end of the film, there was some text that came up to say that later in his career, Jim Donavan was involved in the release of over 9000 prisoners in Cuba.

We create ripples constantly by our actions. Each time we buy products it supports the economy and helps to create and sustain jobs. A carefully crafted presentation that we deliver to a colleague or team may inspire them to try a new approach or develop new skills. If we set out with an intention to create positive outcomes and ripples then we are likely to fulfil that objective.

You may have a conversation with a relative, a colleague or friend that helps to increase their energy or motivation. It may be that you pass on a piece of knowledge or information that develops someone’s thinking and sparks some creativity or new ideas. It could be that you create the space to listen to someone outline some thoughts and ideas they have to solve a challenge. In doing so, you may help them to create some clarity about the steps they need to take.

Someone that has suffered some disappointment or a setback may have their spirits lifted by the positive words of support and encouragement that you offer them at that the right moment. In doing so you may provide them with the confidence and strength to persevere and to bounce back quickly.

We all have the ability to make a positive contribution and make a difference to our own environments and our part of the world in our own unique way. It is a choice. We can choose to create positive ripples.

As Sir Winston Churchill once said “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”

If we have a genuine desire and intention to help people, the chances are we will create those positive ripples and in doing so help to make the world a better place.

This week, why not take a few moments to reflect and consider some ways that you can make a difference and create some positive ripples in your environments.

Never underestimate the difference that small gestures can make

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead.

Whilst browsing in gift shops on a recent holiday in Majorca, I noticed that lots of products had starfish on them, so I decided to share a story featuring starfish in this week’s blog.

The Starfish Story by Loren Eiseley.

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it back into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realise there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then smiling at the man, he said… “it made a difference for that one.”

I know that there are some issues in the world that are outside of our sphere of control or influence. We have to accept that we have limited opportunity or chance to change some things. Additionally, some things that are within our control can seem so big and overwhelming that we put off taking action. We can procrastinate, over think things and never make a start or make any progress towards making things better.

However, it’s always worth remembering that when we do take action and make positive contributions to society, it helps to make the world a better place to live in.

The story I’ve shared can act as inspiration to us all to make a start, to take action and make a difference in the world.

We can make the choice to focus on the things we can control to make our own environments as good as they can be. We can all play a part in making the world a better place. Every day we have the power and choice about where we place our focus and energy. It’s within our gift about how and where we make a positive difference in the world.

With this in mind, here are some thoughts about how we can all play a part in making the world a better a place. We can: –

  • All take small actions and collectively create a positive ripple to counter the negativity, fear and nastiness that is prevalent in the world sometimes.
  • Look at ways we make our environments and part of the world more pleasant. This can be as simple as picking up some litter on our daily walk.
  • Carefully consider the impact on others of our actions and decisions before we speak or act.
  • Have greater empathy for people suffering challenges and hardship.
  • Be present and give people our full attention. As part of this we can decide to listen more than we talk. This will mean the people we interact with will feel heard, valued and important.
  • Look for what’s positive about people and situations.
  • Be encouraging and supportive of other people’s endeavours and happy for their success and achievements. Give credit to people when it’s due.
  • Be nice to people.

This week, why not pause for a few moments to reflect and consider what action you can take to help make your part of the world a better place.
