Happy New Year, I hope that this year is a happy, healthy and fulfilling one for you.
2015 represents 15 years since I left my corporate role and started my own business. To celebrate this milestone, I have compiled below 15 tips to help you to Be First Class this year.
I hope that they help you to increase your happiness and fulfilment and to thrive professionally and personally.
1. Have a clear vision for your personal and professional life
Get clear on what you want and would like to experience and achieve.
2. Play to your strengths
Spend more time thinking about what you are good at, rather than the things you need to improve or are not so good at.
3. Create your definition of happiness and success
This will allow you to live life your way and provide a framework for you to review your personal progress.
4. Quit comparing yourself to others
This will save a lot of mental energy and focus. Have you ever compared yourself to someone else and found them to exactly the same as you? We are all unique.
5. Spend more time in the present moment
Quit worrying about the past or living life too far in the future. Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.
6. Let go of things that you can’t control
Focus your time and energy on things that you can control and influence.
7. Be discerning with the use of your time and energy
Ensure that you do things that make you feel good and increase your energy. Spend time with people that increase rather than drain your energy.
8. Change your inner critic’s job description
Speak to yourself in a kind and encouraging way. Develop your inner critic into an inner coach. Develop a positive, confident mindset and attitude to life. Believe in yourself and embrace opportunity.
9. Be grateful for what you have
Take time regularly to really appreciate all that you have in your life and give thanks. Remember to celebrate your successes, achievements and good fortune.
10. Trust your instincts
If your instincts say be brave and go for it, listen to that wisdom. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
11. Don’t be afraid to ask for help
You can’t do it all alone. Get help for your areas of limitation and gaps in your knowledge and resources. See it as strength to ask for help when you need it.
12. Make self-care a priority
Take time to focus on your health and well-being. On a plane we are told that in the event of an emergency to put our oxygen mask on first before we help others.
13. Remember that life is short and enjoy the simple things in life
Do what makes you happy and are passionate about. Follow your dreams, spend time with those you love and remember that quite often the best things in life are free
14. Be impeccable with your word
Say only what you mean and promise only what you will fulfil. Speak with integrity and avoid negative language and gossip.
15. Be yourself (everyone else is taken)
Be true to yourself and your values. Remember that you are unique and special. As Judy Garland once famously said, “it is better to be a first rate version of yourself than a second rate version of somebody else.”
I hope that you find these tips useful. This week, why not spend a few moments thinking about which of the tips that you would like to focus more attention on this year and develop.
This week’s quotation:
“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties” Helen Keller
