Research suggests that 90% of what we do each day is habit.
Each day when you get up to the time that you retire to bed, there are hundreds of things that you do each day the same way. This will include the way you shower, dress, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, drive to work etc.
The positive aspect of habits is that they free up your mind while your body is on automatic pilot. You are able to plan your day whilst you are in the shower. The negative aspect of habits is that they get locked into sub-conscious self-defeating patterns that inhibit your growth, limit your performance and prevent you from fulfilling your potential.
Whatever habits that you have established are producing your current level of results. If you would like to create increased results, improved performance, you will need to create a different set of habits.
It was Einstein that said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. If you want a different set of results, you have to adopt a different approach.
Some habits that may not allow you to be the best you can be, include not returning phone calls, watching too much TV, staying up late, not getting sufficient sleep, spending time with negative people, not taking a break at lunchtime, not drinking enough water, eating the wrong food and insufficient exercise.
Habits that could allow you to be the best you can be and increase your productivity, may include returning phone calls within 24 hours, aiming to have 8 hours sleep per night, spending more time with positive people, taking a break at lunchtime, exercising for 20 minutes a day, drinking 2 litres of water each day, limiting the amount of time that you watch TV and increase the amount that you read.
